How do I become a wholesale buyer? It's a simple process! Please fill out the Open Account form and check the box at the bottom indicating you wish to become a wholesale buyer. We will create an account (usually right away, but it may take up to 12-24 hours) and send an email to you. Click on the link in the e-mail and set your password, and you're ready to go! Wholesale purchasers should provide a valid federal tax ID number and website address (if applicable) to become a wholesale buyer; if you are located outside the United States, please provide the website address of your business. Call 651-488-1603 if you have any questions about setting up an account—we're here to help!
What is the wholesale discount? Wholesale discounts vary from 10-50% (the average is about 20-30%). We don't have an across-the-board discount due to the fluctuating prices and exchange rates from Europe and other factors. Some clearance items carry the same price for both wholesale and retail.
Pricing: We reserve the right to change wholesale or retail prices without notice.
Do you give additional discounts? We currently don't offer any additional discounts (except for advertised sales or special offers), due to the overheads involved in operating the online stores, credit-card processing, etc.—and to be fair to everyone who buys. Thank you for your understanding.
Where are your trims made? Virtually all of our metallic gimps and galloons are made in Europe by top-of-the-line manufacturers who have been in the business a century or more. Approximately three-quarters of our trims are made in Europe; the rest, mostly jacquards, are made by quality Asian manufacturers.
Are your metallic items made with real metal? The short answer is that some are, but most aren't. Many makers have stopped making trims with real metal because demand is limited. Real metal trims can tarnish or corrode—the patina can be wonderful, but real metallic trims can have limitations for items that are going to be washed or dry cleaned frequently, etc. They are also much more expensive.
Almost all of our real metal trims have been discontinued by the manufacturer, alas! We still have some real-metallic in stock—these have an item number that starts with an M (e.g. M731.2). They are usually a mix of metallic and non-metallic threads.
All of our metallic gimps and galloons come from quality European makers who specialize in metallic trims, and the quality is top notch—you will notice a huge difference between the metallic trims you get in a big-box fabric store and the European trims we sell. Most of our jacquards (the multi-colored, ribbony trims) are made in Asia, and some do contain mylar threads to create a metallic effect.
What is your minimum order per item? Our minimum order is 1 yard for retail, and 5 yards for wholesale—although certain items, such as miniature cords, are sold by the spool (109 yards/100 meters) only.
Can I special-order items? We have access to many more trims that we do not carry as stock items. Note that the minimum order is 27.3 yards (25 meters) of most items. The time needed depends upon the manufacturer—it can take as little as 2-3 weeks, or as long as 6-8 weeks or more, and we cannot guarantee a delivery date, unfortunately, due to many factors outside of our control, such as manufacturing time, shipping time, and customs. Please call to discuss, as certain items can usually be received within 2-3 weeks. We can also often source other items such as tassels, frogs, and fringe—just ask and we'll see what we can do. Note that special-order trims cannot be returned unless they are defective. Please also note that CUSTOM TRIM ORDERS CANNOT BE RETURNED DUE TO CUSTOMS FEES. The buyer is liable and should anticipate paying customs fees in order to receive a shipment. These can be in the neighborhood of 25% or more plus a post-office fee for handling.***
Do you sell remnants? We sell remnants and other clearance items through our Etsy store.
What is "Tudor Gold"? Tudor Gold is a beautiful, warm bright-gold tone (the manufacturer calls it red-gold), preferred by some for historical costuming for its exquisite patina.
How can I be sure of the color? Unfortunately, the color of trims online is sometimes skewed by the settings on your monitor and photography, so if you need to match something, it's best to get a sample (see sample policy in the next question). Sometimes trim makers will change the materials they use to make a trim—which can mean very slight variations of color from one lot to the next. If you have special requirements, please contact us so we can help you with your order.
Do you provide samples? Yes, we provide two-inch samples of trims as needed, up to a maximum of five trims per customer. We do not sell sample books of the entire collection. If you have specific needs, please let us know and we will try to accommodate. Each additional sample is charged $5.00 per sample. Please call 651-488-1603 for sample purchases.
How quickly are items shipped? We usually ship within 12-24 hours via the U.S. Postal Service, although we can also ship via UPS or Fedex if needed (or if you have an account number). If you have a tight deadline, please let us know. We will let you know when you place your order if there is any delay in getting your order out within our usual 24-hour time frame.
Shipping Prices: Please note that our shipping prices include postage, packing, handling, and other fees.
Do you ship internationally? Yes, we ship around the world! Please note that the buyer is responsible for covering all customs duties charged by your country, which can be significant (sometimes up to 20% or more). Contact your country's customs office for information. It is difficult to predict on our end how much duty your country will charge, as it often seems to depend upon the individual customs agent and how she or he interpret the contents of the package. If you choose not to accept a package due to the customs charges, we will refund the price of the trim upon receipt of the returned package (shipping costs cannot be refunded).
International shipping: Our international shipping prices reflect the average order size for your destination. For smaller orders, we will work to reduce shipping costs where possible and will refund shipping costs when we can find a cheaper alternative. Please contact us in advance of placing an order if you would like us to estimate actual shipping costs for the specific items you wish to purchase and what your refund might be. You may still need to place the order with the full shipping price, and we will then refund you the overage.
What forms of payment do you accept? We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and PayPal.
What is your return policy? We allow trims to be returned for a full refund within 15 calendar days (from date of shipment) if they are in their original condition (clean and uncut). Trims returned clean and uncut in the 16-30 day period may be exchanged for credit. Trims cannot be returned after the 30-day period. Trims that have been cut or are otherwise damaged cannot be returned. Special-order and clearance items cannot be returned unless there is a manufacturer's defect.
What about customs and custom fees? IMPORTANT: Your country may assess customs fees to import our products into your country. You, as buyer, are responsible for those fees, which are set by your country's customs office and collected by them. We have no control over these fees and cannot tell you in advance what they might be for your country; we also cannot intervene or contact your customs office to argue for a different charge. Customs fees may be up to 25% or more of the value of the shipment as indicated on the invoice for your order, which we must include by law. Your post office might also charge a fee to handle the transaction on top of the regular customs fee charges.
Please do not ask us to falsify customs documents, i.e. the value or contents of the shipment, in order to receive lower customs charges. It is a felony offense in the United States to falsify these documents.
Customs and custom trim orders: PLEASE NOTE THAT CUSTOM ORDERS CANNOT BE RETURNED DUE TO CUSTOMS FEES. The buyer is liable and should anticipate paying customs fees in order to receive a shipment. These can be in the neighborhood of 25% plus a post-office fee for handling.***
How do I make a return? Please call or email for authorization before making a return. Wind the trim neatly, place inside a plastic bag, and ship in a secure box or mailer to us at: Palladia Passementerie, 1459 Mackubin Street, St. Paul, MN 55117, USA. It is best to use a carrier that provides tracking and insurance to guarantee that your item reaches us, as we cannot be responsible for packages that do not reach us. Please include a copy of the original invoice or packing slip if possible. We will be in touch to let you know of the status of your return.
Are your trims guaranteed? Our trims are guaranteed to be free of defects only. Due to the complex nature of fabrics and the variety of cleaning, construction, and storage conditions, we cannot guarantee how a trim will hold up under sewing, gluing, dry cleaning, machine washing, bleaching, damp conditions, shrinking, fading, etc. If you have concerns, it is best to order a yard and do your own testing to make sure it will perform to your specific needs.
Why does my trim have a splice or cut? On occasion, you may receive a trim with a manufacturer's splice or cut; your order will include extra length (usually about 6") to accommodate the cut/splice.
Is it possible to come to your location to see the trims in person? We do not have a bricks-and-mortar store, but you may make an appointment to see the trims if you are in the Twin Cities area. Appointments should be made at least a week in advance, although we can often accommodate short-notice requests.
How do you pronounce "passementerie"? "Passementerie" is the French word for textile trimmings, tassels, and related items. It's pronounced something like "pahss-mahn-TREE"—but you can just say Palladia!
Are you on Facebook? But of course! "Like" our page to keep up-to-date on new items and get access to exclusive discounts and occasional trim giveaways. We're at www.facebook.com/palladiapassementerie.
